Nostalgically Whimsical Fort Collins Wedding

Korben & Colleen

Rollerland, Fort Collins, Colorado

January 20, 2019

This is a story about the two most charming, full-of-life, exploding-with-whimsy souls ever to exist. Colleen + Korben’s relationship began spontaneously, but ended up being the furthest thing from just a happy accident. It was a beautiful promise–a gift from a faithful God.

He was her bus driver one night for a concert up the canyon, at the local’s favorite, Mishawaka Amphitheater. They began seeing each other more + more around town–at church, at get togethers–and they magnetically drew together. Bonding over their ability to be unapologetically themselves, their sense of humor, and a desire to have the same things in life, they quickly fell into redemptive love.

I met up with them on their wedding day outside Colleen’s downtown apartment, blown away by their vintage, one of a kind wardrobe selections. We just strolled around the nostalgic Old Town Fort Collins before the afternoon got rolling, letting their giddiness flow wildly through the streets.

We met up with the wedding party to ride around town on none other than an actual school bus, reminiscent of how the two met. After a champagne pop, we cruised to the gorgeous, snow-dusted foothills for some photos.

One of the most magical sights of the day was seeing Korben’s kids over-the-moon ecstatic to ride on the schoolbus when it went to pick up both families for photos. It was that pure, blissful excitement of a child, representing what was at the heart of this whole day–people who believe in the joy of life.

Next was the ceremony at the church Korben + Colleen call home, Genesis Project. They transformed the room into a romantic, golden, Great-Gatsby feeling gathering place to witness a beautiful union.

People all around the room wept as Colleen, poet + writer that she is, crumbled everyone to tears with her epic vows, to Korben + then to the kids. Korben had some equally endearing, silly dad jokes to share along with his vows for Colleen.

Everyone indulged in some fancy cheese plates + headed next door to Rollerland, the blast-from-the-past skate rink that makes you feel like you’re just a kid right back in the beloved 90s again. Guests enjoyed roller skating, pizza, cupcakes, and dancing, all followed up by a sparkler exit for the bride + groom.

It was such a beautifully anticipated day that was perfectly them. They simply put together all the things they wanted their wedding day to be made up of, went for their dreams, and invited everyone to celebrate along by doing things that brought the spirit of who they are to life. It was a wedding day showcasing that weddings don’t have to be stressful, pretentious productions. They can just be fun. And that is a celebration enough.
