PHOTOGRAPHY

Five years ago, I was going to Nepal for a service trip, and a friend asked me to shoot her wedding in exchange for a donation to my expedition. Ever since then, a mission was born. Saying YES to that wedding launched me into a lifetime of taking portraits, world travel, + crafting stories. I've continued telling peoples' stories in every corner of the world through photojournalism. My specialties reside in storytelling through wedding + portrait photography, and partnering with nonprofits to advocate for their missions. If my art always involves people + creating perplexing work, I will love this forever. My most prevalent passion is fighting the injustice of sex trafficking using my gifting.

next: Sweet justice philosophy

It all started with a love of people ➳

I am passionate about being your advocate - about telling the stories of our next door neighbors, as well as people on the other side of the world; passionate about spreading the word when good happens in our communities, and acting in love. My creative fire is giving justice to your distinguished story. This is a justice different from what we see in cold courthouses punishing criminals; its about worthiness, beauty, + compassion. I've learned that when I know someone's story, I can't help but love them; and that is the core of Sweet Justice. When people understand the way others live, it not only stirs up love for one another through emotion - it activates caring hearts and acting hands. For this reason, Sweet Justice is a Love Gives Way vendor - a platform for couples partnering with vendors + causes fighting sex trafficking. Seeing an end to the sex trade is my deepest desire, and when you book with SJ, 10% of your wedding expenses go toward fighting it.

My style carries a depth of emotional connection, movement, and candid moments. I feel most creative with my camera at sparkling wedding venues, in your home - I love capturing what your lifestyle looks like! - and outdoors in natural lighting. Each snapshot tells of a journey and how your grand story meshed together, bringing a celebration of life to light. My goal is cultivating a space for you to feel most comfortable + cared for. I believe when you open your wedding package, it should bring you right back to your newlywed feels - and that involves a lot more than photographs! This is about the magic of your story; the textures surrounding you, the smells of the scene, the foliage + the little details.

next: the team

I'm all for capturing hopeful snapshots + storylines through a camera lens, pairing nostalgic, whimsical photography with thoughtfully curated words.

1. I have a slight (major) obsession with the fairies living all over my garden
2. I lead a Bible study + club for teen moms
3. All we need, I believe, is people filling our homes, a little wine, + food on the table
4. Curry is necessary in all meals
5. Every day I imagine it's still the 70's
6. I love teaching Spanish to middle schoolers
7. Summers are when my backpack-guiding hippie self comes out
8. South East Asia is my most favorite part of the world
9. Every morning I sit by my window, coffee in hand, + wonder
10. Get me on a dance floor + you won't ever be the same

1. Food is my love language! Nothing makes me happier than cooking a quality meal for
my friends and family.
2. You can also find me flipping beans over at Dutch Bros. Coffee!
3. Speaking of coffee… I consume about 3-4 cups a day… it's an obsession.
4. I am fluent in Italian, lived in Italy for a year, and ate an absurd (but necessary) amount of pasta.
5. My sweet escape will forever be in the mountains; whether its hiking, snowboarding, or simply sitting on a rock while reading a book.
6. Savory over sweet! I could finish a whole bag of Boulder Chips or chips in salsa for a meal.
7. Latino + reggae music are my two favorite genres to dance to!
8. I grew up in Hastings, Minnesota, and although the winters are eternally freezing, nothing beats forrest green Minnesota summers
9. A few things that make me come alive are painting, drawing, traveling, coffee dates, meeting new people, and sunrises.
10. If a sunset is vibrant enough, I will cry.. I actually cry happy tears a lot. This earth is SO perfectly created!

"I love this woman. Not only for her amazing talent behind the camera, but for her heart for Jesus and for justice. Thank you for capturing our family."
- April Squires, wife, mom, and merchandise director at Life For The Innocent

Sweet Justice Photography and the girl behind it all, Emily, are unbelievable. I watched her photography via social media for awhile in awe of her creative talent and eye for the details. When I saw she began shooting weddings and I was in need of photographer, of course she was first on my list. Emily has created a seamless form of relations and cares for your desires so deeply. It was a joy to watch her work and play a role in Sweet Justice Photography, carrying a vision for storytelling that holds a special place in my husband's and I's hearts. When you hire Emily, you are hiring so much more than a photographer; her personality and kind heart add the sweetest touch. Thank you Emily - you are a gift and we are abundantly thankful for you!
- Jessica Jo MacMillan, bride

"I had a really short engagement (7 weeks short) and was a little frantic trying to find a photographer, but the moment I first spoke with and then met Emily, all my worries went out the door! She is an absolute delight to work with. Trusting someone to capture moments on one of the biggest days in your life feels a bit risky- especially if you don't previously know them- however, we felt so unbelievably comfortable with Emily. She was fun, easy-going, and willing to be adventurous with us (in the snow) so we could capture those perfect pictures! I haven't even seen my wedding photos yet and would still recommend Emily hands down! She is wonderful and has a sweet heart too. Thank you for all your hard work, Emily! "
- Rebekah Conable, bride

"Emily was one of the photographers at my wedding and I couldn't have been more thrilled with the job she did. She made that part of the planning stress free, which was an enormous help to my husband and I. She met with me multiple times before the ceremony to make sure I felt comfortable and all the plans were in place. The day of my wedding, she was organized and took initiative which was really important to me. She made the photo sessions fun and engaging. Our pictures turned out so well and I am grateful because now I can always look back at that day and the pictures that preserve very precious memories to me. Emily is professional, fun, sweet, and accommodating. I am so glad she was the photographer at my wedding!"
- Morgan Goldstein, bride

"Emily is amazing. She photographed our daughter's wedding and took amazing photos, really capturing the moments. She is also very laid back which helps tremendously during the most stressful hours of your life. You would be extremely fortunate to have her photograph your event. There are lots of qualified photographers. There are very few artists who take their craft seriously. Emily is the whole package. Thank you God for Emily, her amazing gift, and sharing that with our family for eternity."
- Tonya Wells, mother of the bride
