This is a project for a Photojournalism class I took at CSU Fall 2014 on documenting an ongoing local story for six weeks.
FORT COLLINS, CO
Highlighted in this long-term documentary is the mastery of craft goods in Fort Collins. A story of uncanny devotion, told within the process of making each bar, comes through photographs of Nuance Chocolate. Nuance is a new shop in Old Town, one of the only chocolate shops in the country to roast their own cocoa beans. The factory where cocoa beans enter and come out as chocolate bars is located just a few blocks away, promoting ethical trade with all their cocoa providers. What makes their technique different is a passion for quality chocolate instilled in all of its crafters.
Strolling its history-rich streets, the essence of Fort Collins brings people back to a different time in society. I've been trying to put my finger on the reason behind this beauty, and as I explored the new chocolate factory, it came to me. This town is overflowing with a deep-rooted love for each artist's craft. From microbreweries to coffee roasters to jewelers, every local shop is a new adventure to step foot into. These photographs focus on one of the great arts of Fort Collins; hand-crafted chocolate.
