HOW DO YOU TURN A FOREST FIRE LIKE ME SO SOFT I TURN INTO RUNNING WATER.
The sun swept across the garden valley this fiery Monday in the height of summer, assuring us that the striking details of this story were, indeed, deliberate. This is a story of the mosaic made when too hearts shattered like glass come together, build up from the ground, and arise. Strong.
I remember standing across from Graham outside a YoungLife leadership meeting as he consulted his friends about talking to Kat; "I don't even know what she likes to talk about. Should I ask her if she likes cats?". This man, brand new to Fort Collins, Colorado, was wonderstruck by the most endearing woman he'd ever seen, and wanted more than anything to be able to have a conversation with her.
When he finally did give voice to the passion he had to start something with Kat, the rest was history. A little over a year later, they were engaged on a snowy evening in the middle of Old Town Fort Collins, twinkly lights surrounding them assuring them of the goodness to come.
We gathered in a home outside of Littleton to prepare the bride for the start of her forever. She carried a presence of nothing but peace, giving rise to her assurance in the love she'd found. The quiet summer morning was breezy + shaded in cloud cover, a humble welcoming to the best day of Kat + Graham's lives.
While guests gathered at the Hudson Gardens to watch the Wileys wed, Kat shared a few moments with the most influential men in her life. These are the moments you go back to again + again, for the rest of your life, when you think of those feelings you'll only have once and hold onto, that you'll tell your grandkids about and assure your future daughter with as she approaches the aisle.
Tapping her father on his shoulder, he turned to see his pride + joy adorned in white, captivation written across his face.
Then it was time for the first look. But this one was so much more - it was a time to share the afternoon with one another before the hours flew by - to hold hands + take a walk through the gardens, to laugh + talk about the dreams they had their last night apart.
At points when these two could've given up on hope, had every reason to believe darkness had all the power, and white-knuckled belief, they gained endurance.
Apart, at different times in their lives, in different places. Yet - they rose.
And then they found each other, and all the pieces still didn't make sense, but they had someone to endure it beside them. They are a radiant union of redemption.
Each member of this bridal party plays such a distinct + sacred role in the lives of Kat + Graham, and all together, this group was a walking portrait of our gain in life; of what it looks like to be surrounded by people who will fight for you when all you need is the light.
ALL the kisses!
Beneath the willow trees, in the glimmer of golden hour, this summer wedding ensued. Otter pops were popped + sun hats were donned.
Mr. + Mrs. WILEY!
The reception was held in Monet's Palace, which it like, and we ate sunflower cupcakes and clapped our hands as we laughed at some of the best wedding toasts.
Yard games + dancing filled the night with pure bliss!
SUNSET SNEAKAWAY SHOOT.
The two were wished a wonderful time on their camp + cruise honeymoon with a glow stick farewell, + the crickets chirped + we felt that all was right.
